i dont think we're in kansas anymore

Earlier this month, Disney released it's latest film, The Great and Powerful Oz. Based on the characters from the original 1939 flick, The Wizard of Oz, starring the fabulous Judy Garland, this modern take on the classic tale tells the story of the how Oz came to be; a prequel, if you will. With the exception of Garland's undeniable talent and her equally as stunning ruby encrusted heels, I was never really a huge fan of the original.
Don't get me wrong, I love a good musical, but something about that army of suit wearing monkeys, lead by a real life version of my seven year old self's biggest fear, made the film less than enjoyable.
Thirteen years later, I find the whole thing quite hilarious.
Grown men in quite elaborate animal suits and chic tin gear… that's good stuff.
So when I heard that Disney was going to tell the story before the story, I was thrilled. I've always found prequels and sequels to be utterly entertaining and interesting. Though they usually take away from the original film, it's always fascination to learn more about the characters. Or maybe that's just the writer in me talking…
In any case, I was determined to see this movie. So determined that I researched the actors, the screenplay, the trailers, all of it!
Okay…let's cut the garbage, shall we?
In truth, I heard who would be playing the character of Oz,
and I was instantly obsessed.
James Franco.
James fricken Franco.
That luscious thick brown hair.
The dark deep set eyes.
That incredibly sexy chiseled jaw line.
Hubba-Hubba, mama likey.
Putting my feverish female fantasy aside, he is quite the actor.
Although, I have to admit, I'm very interested in seeing how his latest role turns out..
Thugged up rasta gangster who tries (and succeeds) to coherence teen girls into running drugs and packing heat?
Should be juicy.
Not to mention the kinky threesome with girls who used to star on Barney and Friends…
Ticket for one, please!
Filmed along side Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars), Vanessa Hudgens (High School Musical), Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place), and newcomer to the scene Rachel Korine, James Franco definitely has his hands full of ex-Disney dolls.
In any case, he's a fab actor and Oz was a fab movie.
Below are some fun finds that I've been staring at since seeing the movie..
And of course, to kick things off, OPI's latest collection….

left to right - top to bottom :
Lights of Emerald City
Don't Burst My Bubble
When Monkeys Fly
Glint of Glinda
Which is Witch
I Theadora You
What Wizardry is This? (liquid sand combination)

And now, the pièce de résistance…

Just adorable.
Seth Rogan and James Franco circa Pineapple Express

lots of love xo

**Since writing this post, my sister and her girlfriends went to see Spring Breakers. After leaving the theatre, she called me right away. These were her first words,
"Worst. Movie. Ever.
Biggest piece of $&!^ I've ever seen."
Aside from the less than lady-like choice of wording, I was shocked. I know the trailer looks absolutely ridiculous and was put together quick poorly (in my opinion), I honestly thought this movie would be one of those "so-bad-it's-good" types. Guess not…
Either way, I'll still be seeing it this weekend, in the hopes that **fingers crossed** James Franco does not disappoint. Stay tuned!**

a little piece of heaven

The 'bookmarks' tab on my laptop is filled with hundreds of sites and blogs covering everything from the latest in butt shaping workouts, quick and easy eats, and vegetarian friendly recipes, to furniture warehouses, euro-pop music, shopping sites, an online medical forum, and various job sites.

In my room alone, there are magazines, clothes, shoes, hair supplies, the contents of my 'weekend' purses (ie. lipstick, receipts, credit cards, loose changes, bobby pins, shredded bottle labels ((because apparently I do that now…)) and mismatched earrings), shoppings bags (some still full, others empty), wrapping paper, packing tape, scissors, markers (I recently wrapped a present for a long distance BFF of mine and have yet to clean up the remains), and I'm embarrassed to say… empty alcohol bottles.
All of this and more collects day after day to decorate the once
beautiful deep brown carpet in my room.

My bathroom is surprisingly clean (probably because my mother considers this territory hers and has set fair, yet incredible high standards for cleanliness), with the exception of the counter space…
Hair brushes and products, makeup and remover, and half of my 'nail salon' equipment is constantly cluttering up what little space I had to start with.

To say that I have a hard time organizing my life, would be an understatement.

However, there is one aspect of my life that is now so beautifully displayed in the most fab and convenient way possible. And I must say, I absolutely love it.
It's one of the best things I've ever made.
Yes, that's right - I made it.
The girl who struggles with assembling the damn Kinder Surprise toys,
actually built something.
I saw something similar on a few different blog sites, and finally decided to go for it.
It was quick, relatively easy (thanks Home Depot and Dad), and worth every penny.
And that's the best part! I had scoped out Home Scence, Urban Barn, Costco, Walmart, and even a few specialty stores for a shelf that would accommodate my growing collection, but they were all around the sixty dollar mark, and did not have anywhere near enough shelves.
So I made it my rainy weekend project et voila!
The Nail Shelf.

I realize that two of the shelves are not quite perfect, but hey, I'm no carpenter.
Here is a link to the lovely lady who inspired my shelf…

The shelf supplies cost me under $25 (including wood, nails, glue, and paint) and took around two hours to fully assemble.

**Note : I used a different type of wood than Dulce Candy did. I found the faux-wood board that she used a bit to flimsy for my liking, so I opted for a thin cut plywood. And along with the glue, I used a few nails to hold the shelves in place (a suggestion from my father - long time craftsman). **
